Juncos Hollinger Racing has Tough Race at Road America

Juncos Hollinger Racing (JHR) ran in grueling conditions at America’s National Park of Speed. The hot temperatures pushed drivers and their cars to the limit as they navigated Road America’s 14 turns over 4.048-miles.  

Sting Ray Robb qualified the No. 77 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet in P26, while teammate Conor Daly started the No. 76 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet in P21 for Sunday’s 55-lap event. Road America is one of the few tracks in the world that hasn’t changed layouts since its inception, bringing an old-school challenge to modern racing.  

Hot conditions marked the weekend’s event, bringing tire management to the forefront of team strategies.  

Conor Daly opted for an alternate strategy, pitting early in the No. 76 Chevrolet. Penalties unfortunately halted his progress up the grid, ultimately bringing the car home in P22.

Conor Daly, driver of the No. 76 Chevrolet: “A decent day going for us at the beginning, but completely locked the rears down in Turn 5. Really strange and we had some really difficult brake issues for the rest of the day. I’m not sure if it started there, but there was bad rear locking. I ended up in the gravel, which was my mistake. I just tried to fight back, but couldn’t do much. Apologies to the team. Obviously, drivers make mistakes sometimes and today I did. I’ll take responsibility for that, and move on to the next one.”

Sting Ray Robb’s Sunday ended after nine laps, when an on-track incident saw Sting Ray careening into the tire barriers off Turn 5. 

Sting Ray Robb, driver of the No. 77 Chevrolet: “I’m going to have to take a look and watch a replay. We’re on alternates, charging hard and we didn’t have to go on fuel save from where we were in the race until the end. I saw Marcus (Armstrong) was on blacks and I don’t know if he was fuel saving or not. We had a great run out of Turn 3 and I was setting up a pass. I don’t know what I needed to do there. I’ll go back and take a look and hopefully, I can learn something. That’s not a good way to have our day end up. Everyone is being aggressive today. That’s just how it’s going to be.”

Juncos Hollinger Racing enfrentó una carrera difícil en Road America

Juncos Hollinger Racing (JHR) compitió en condiciones extremas en el “America’s National Park of Speed”. Las altas temperaturas pusieron al límite a los pilotos y a sus autos mientras corrían las 14 curvas del trazado de 4.048 millas de Road America.

Sting Ray Robb clasificó el Chevrolet  #77 en la posición 26, mientras que su compañero, Conor Daly, largó desde la posición 21 con el Chevrolet #76. Road America, una carrera que consta de 55 vueltas, es uno de los pocos circuitos en el mundo que no ha cambiado su diseño desde su creación, ofreciendo un desafío de la vieja escuela al automovilismo moderno.

Las altas temperaturas marcaron el evento del fin de semana, poniendo la gestión de neumáticos en el centro de las estrategias de los equipos.

Conor Daly optó por una estrategia alternativa, entrando temprano a boxes con el Chevrolet #76. Sin embargo, algunas penalizaciones frenaron su avance en el clasificador, finalizando la carrera en la posición 22.

“Buen comienzo para nosotros, pero bloqueé completamente las ruedas traseras en la Curva 5. Realmente extraño, y tuvimos problemas de frenos bastante difíciles el resto del día. No estoy seguro si comenzó ahí, pero hubo mucho bloqueo en la parte trasera. Terminé en la grava, fue un error mío. Traté de recuperarme, pero no pude hacer mucho. Mis disculpas al equipo. Obviamente, los pilotos a veces cometemos errores, y hoy fue mi caso. Asumo la responsabilidad y paso página para la próxima carrera” manifestó Daly. 

La carrera de Sting Ray Robb terminó luego de nueve vueltas, tras un incidente en pista que lo llevó a impactar contra las barreras de neumáticos a la salida de la curva 5.

Sting Ray Robb dijo: “Tendré que revisar la repetición. Estábamos con neumáticos alternativos, empujando fuerte, y no necesitábamos ahorrar combustible desde donde estábamos en la carrera hasta el final. Vi que Marcus (Armstrong) estaba con neumáticos duros y no sé si estaba ahorrando combustible o no. Tuvimos una muy buena salida de la curva 3 y estaba preparando el sobrepaso. No sé qué más podría haber hecho ahí. Voy a revisarlo y, con suerte, podré aprender algo. No es la manera en la que queríamos terminar el día”. 

La temporada 2025 de la NTT INDYCAR SERIES continúa el próxima 6 de julio con el “Honda Indy 200” en Mid-Ohio.
