Indianapolis, Indiana, May 18, 2024

The Month of May is officially here as the NTT INDYCAR SERIES takes to the track of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to qualify for the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 Presented by Gainbridge. The infamous oval course has served up high-speed battles going well over 200mph every year as champions and rookies alike fight for the crown at the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

Romain Grosjean was fifth on track in Saturday’s qualifying session, taking to the track late after Rinus Veekay, the fourth to qualify, cascaded into the wall at Turn 3 delaying the session. After the track was cleared, Grosjean clocked in his fastest lap at 231.858mph, finishing with an average of 231.514mph in the 4-lap stint.

The No. 78 entry of Agustin Canapino drew the seventh qualifying time, taking to the track shortly after Grosjean’s first stint. The Argentine reached a fastest lap of 233.267mph on his third run of the day, ending with a best average of 231.847mph.

Each driver went out for multiple attempts, but both kept their original times.

Canapino will start next Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 race in 22nd position, with Grosjean starting 26th on the grid.

Fans can watch the final grid be decided tomorrow at 3:05pm, and catch the rest of the pre-race coverage throughout the week leading up to the May 26 Indy 500 green flag at 12:45pm on NBC and Peacock.
