The Asociacion Corredores de Turismo Carretera (ACTC) and Juncos Hollinger Racing (JHR) can confirm that Agustín Canapino will compete at the 10th round of Argentina’s Turismo Carretera racing series on 19-20 August.

The 33-year-old, who is a four-time Turismo Carretera champion (2010, 2017, 2018 and 2019), will drive a Chevrolet car in the signature green and black colors of Juncos Hollinger Racing. He will also use the same #78 driver number that he runs in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

“I feel very proud to see Agustín again in Turismo Carretera. He is our ambassador, he is the Messi of motorsport,” Gustavo Lema, Director of JP Carrera, said.

Agustín said: “It is a beautiful opportunity to return to the family of Turismo Carretera and see all of the amazing fans once again.”

Affectionately known as the ‘Titan’, Agustín will compete at the Juan y Oscar Galvez Autodrome in Buenos Aires. His return coincides with the circuit celebrating 71 years since its opening race in 1952.

The President of the ACTC, Hugo Mazaccane, said: “It’s a privilege to see a driver born and raised in Turismo Carretera returning to the series next month. It will be fantastic for the fans to see one of the best drivers in our country compete once more.”

The race in Buenos Aires is expected to be hotly contested, as Agustín believes it’s a venue where everyone wants to win.

He said: “Buenos Aires is the ‘cathedral of motorsports’ as we call it, and since the track’s renovations, it will be more than special to race there again.

“It was also the place where I was able to secure my first championship title at the age of 20, back in 2010, and everything changed for me from that day onwards.”

The historic Buenos Aires racetrack will host a Turismo Carretera race for the first time since March 2021 when Jose Manuel Urcera claimed victory.

Ricardo Juncos, Co-owner and Team Principal of JHR, said he is proud to be part of such a special Turismo Carretera racing return.

“For Agustín to race again in the TC, being an INDYCAR driver, is a priceless opportunity that presented itself very beautifully. It deserves everyone’s support, and that’s why Brad Hollinger and I did not hesitate to allow Agustín to participate in Buenos Aires and at the five TC races that complete the 2023 season.”

Once his Buenos Aires outing is complete, Agustín will return to the United States to race with Juncos Hollinger Racing at the World Wide Technology Raceway, during round 15 of the 2023 NTT INDYCAR season, on 27 August.
